On February 7, 2024, the first closed-door meeting of the Association for Sustainable Agri-PV (VnAP) took place in Berlin, and we participated as a founding member. The VnAP is strongly committed to promoting responsible and sustainable agri-PV. By utilizing supporting technologies, this initiative aims to benefit agriculture while simultaneously increasing public acceptance of renewable energy.

The interdisciplinary participants at the conference—representing agriculture, environmental protection, the energy sector, law, and academia—agreed that the agricultural sector faces major challenges. In addition to increasing production requirements, farmers are tasked with managing their operations in a way that takes climate protection and biodiversity into account, while simultaneously grappling with uncertain crop yields and the loss of subsidies.

In this context, the VnAP emphasizes the importance of agri-PV as a multifunctional solution and calls for greater integration of this technology into agricultural policy. At the same time, the association warns against inadequate regulation, which could allow the energy industry to roll out conventional PV projects under the guise of agri-PV, potentially jeopardizing primary agricultural production in the long term. To protect agriculture and ensure the long-term acceptance of agri-PV, strict regulation and the sustainable participation of the agricultural sector are therefore necessary.
